Indigo Blue

Oil on Canvas 24" x 24" x 2" Available

The painting of this blue pansy was an exercise in a color study. The color blue has a long history and the meaning of the color blue has changed with time. Blue is the first color to be manufactured by the Egyptians around 2200 BC. It wasn’t successfully turned into a paint until about the 6th century when Buddhist monks in Afghanistan began adding it to their paintings. In the 14th and 15th centuries, it was Italian traders who introduced this color, now called ultramarine, to Europe, and the medieval artists of the time. As time went on kings, naval uniforms, crayons, ceramic and now so common in our time blue jeans.

I love how man learns how to develop and create with the materials placed here on earth. I am also fasinated by meaning given to different

plants to symbolizes different emotions. Pansy symbolizes loyalty and honesty. After reading about blue's history and looking up it's symbolism there is an impression of connection and community even with those past.
